Farewell, Gina

I imagine Gina Glocksen really wishes she had more success the last season she auditioned for American Idol. Instead, she advanced to the top nine this year, only to see her dreams swallowed up by Sanjayamania.

We all know it should have been Sanjaya Malakar who was sent home this week (and last week, and the week before that) but instead Gina was sent home.

Gina may have alienated her voting base by not showing off her rock edge this week, instead singing a mellow ballad called Smile. But that's what Gina suffered from the whole season - she had a hard time finding her niche and sticking with it.

I have to say I was pretty pleased with myself to see that I had accurately predicted the bottom three - Gina, Haley Scarnato and Phil Stacey. All three are good singers whose only faults are inconsistent performances and failing to stand out.

Gina sobbed on Haley's shoulder when she found out she was going home and Haley looked pretty shocked to be staying.

I wonder if today Gina is torturing a Voodoo doll with Sanjaya's face on it.
