My name is Annie Hundley and I'm the editor here at valleynews.com. My blog will range from what's up with the site to life for a newbie in LA.

Farewell, Chris
Contributed by: Annie Hundley / valleynews.com   on 3/29/2007

Well I predicted it right - last night Chris Sligh was sent home on American Idol.

Sanjaya Malakar - the contestant who is redefining terrible - wasn't even in the bottom three.

That was Chris, Phil Stacey and Haley Scarnato.

I wonder if Sanjaya is starting to feel at least a small twinge of guilt for ruining these talented people's lives. Wait... let me think about that... nah.

Chris was one of my early favorites, winning me over with his wit. In his very first audition, when asked why he was there, his answer was that he wanted to make David Hasslehoff cry. (You had to see Hasslehoff crying in the audience during last year's finale to love that joke.) Then, when facing the final cut for the top 24 - where they make contestants walk across a ridiculously long room for added dramatic effect - Chris pulled up his chair in front of the judges and said, "You guys are probably wondering why I called this meeting."

Chris' ability to not take Idol too seriously was refreshing, but the look on his face when he was cut last night showed that he truly did care and was crushed to be sent home. Cut to his poor, adorable wife crying in the audience and it just didn't seem right. Hopefully Chris' talent and wit will lead to something great. If he doesn't make it as a singer, maybe MTV will hire him as a VJ. Wait, does MTV even have VJs any more?

If you're a big fan of Chris, you can track him on his blog, where he's already shilling his band's CD.

Farewell, Chris, and good luck on your quest to "bring chubby back." We'll miss ya.

I wish Chris the best.As for Sanjaya, maybe he's decided to play it up while he lasts to score some lucrative car dealership grand openings...I kinda see it as thumbing his nose (and shaking his locks) at the idiots who can't think for themselves and listen to votefortheworst or Howard Stern! This will definitely go down as an odd season, don't you think, Annie? http://denver.yourhub.com/Parker/Blogs/Arts-Entertainment/Music/Blog~285149.aspx
