Another four bite the dust...

Well I'm not completely satisfied with last night's American Idol elimination show. Of the two contestants I really wanted to be sent home - only one got the boot. Antonella Barba was voted off the show, but Sanjaya Malakar slipped into the top 12.

The good news is, Sanjaya has a much better voice than Antonella. He just really needs to up his game on the showmanship side of his performances.

Here's the breakdown. Jared Cotter and Sundance Head were sloughed off the boys roster. Antonella Barba and Sabrina Sloan said goodbye to the girls.

I'm OK with Jared and Antonella going home, But Sundance and Sabrina were way more talented than some others that made it into the top 12. For the boys, Sanjaya should have been booted. For the girls, that person is Haley Scarnato. It was particularly sad to see Studio City resident Sabrina go, because her performance after the elimination was much better than her performance Wednesday night. She certainly isn't lacking in talent - it makes you wonder if nerves got the best of her. The same could be said for Sundance, who gave a great performance after he was eliminated. My favorite part of the show was how Sundance ended his song. "I need a job. Somebody give me a job." I think Sundance was speaking for all four of the eliminated and he brought a smile to everybody's face.

So, what's the top 12 looking like? Here's the rundown:

Girls:
Gina Glocksen
Haley Scarnato
Jordin Sparks
LaKisha Jones
Melinda Doolittle
Stephanie Edwards

Guys:
Blake Lewis
Brandon Rogers
Chris Richardson
Chris Sligh
Phil Stacey
Sanjaya Malakar

Now's the time when the show gets truly interesting. They will be moving to a bigger stage, the singers will be challenged by more structured song choices and they'll also be coached by some of the industry's biggest artists. It should be a wild ride!

Also, I should mention Idol's announcement of a new program to fight poverty in Africa and the Gulf Coast region here in the U.S. Bravo! Learn more about it here.
