Blog Entry 19 of 24 Get a DWP Sub Water Meter Save $
California Utility Services 1-800-400-1727 The City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works Bureau of Sanitation recently sent out information about your Sewer Service Charges to all 500,000 homeowners and 125,000 commercial customers. Once a year this is sent out along with reference to their website which further confuses the rate payers on exactly what are the SSC charges. Bottom line is this charge is a hidden tax levied by the city agency to maintain the infrastructure of our sewer system and treatment plants. Bureau of Sanitation has been collecting from DWP approx. $350 million dollars a year from this hidden tax. Where has the money gone all of these years? A portion has paid back the city general fund when there is a deficit every year. Most of the money goes for high salaried seasoned workers who need to be trained to get the job done and money spent on sub contractors outside the agency who over charge to do the job seasoned workers can’t do. Now a billion dollars is needed to fix our sewer system. The sewer service charge rates are going up for the next 5 years. Save your hard earned money by installing a Sub Water Meter. Don’t get overcharged by a plumber who does not know what he is doing but smells good. We get more Sub Water Meters than anyone else in the city. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce California Utility Services. We are a service business for LADWP account holders that does it all for you. Our primary objective

DWP-Rate Increase OK'd
Contributed by: Leonard Horowitz   on 4/3/2008

This July and January 2009 water, electrical, and sewer service charge rates are going up. This is perfect timing for helping our full blown recession. Shame on our past and present mayor's and all of Los Angeles city council members past and present who allowed DWP and Bureau of Sanitation to get away with wasting our ratepayers money all of these years.
There has never been proper oversight and the result is a broken electrical system with not enough money to fix it. So DWP says. I'm not so sure! The water rate increase was not properly represented by DWP general manager. Government regulators are causing most of the water side expenses. Not the crumbling of the water line infrastructure. The 63 million on hold should take care of any water rate increase. DWP has been caught not fulfilling their fiduciary responsibility in making the required reservoir fixes. The money once again has been wasted on high union salaries, employee perks, and expensive sub contractors.
It is my opinion the waste will still continue and rate increases will continue for years until the mayor and city council get control away from IBEW union and all other city employee unions. STOP giving in to their extortion by striking. These city employee unions have caused high salaries and difficulty to remove under performing employees to make room for fully trained employees that can do the job and not pay high sub contractors. It's really going to get interesting when oversight committee's do not see the infrastructure fixes taking place within the next few years.
