This blog is generally about what is piquing my interest at the moment which will probably be Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, or politics.

Back from Iraq, safe and sound
Contributed by: Joshua Godinez   on 4/25/2008

In my capacity of chairman of Boy Scouts Troop 104, Mission Hills, I've known boys who have decided on a military career and have gone to Iraq.

However, it came as a surprise when one of the dads, one in fact I was trying to manuver into the Scoutmaster position, announced that he was being called up and was about to be deployed to Iraq.

Luis Aguilar has been with our troop for three years since his son, Justin, bridged into the unit. His good humor and willingness to participate have made him liked and appreciated by the other involved parents.

We were all a little worried when he was deployed last year, but he kept in touch sending occasional messages out to let us know he was OK.

He has returned from his tour of duty this month and is getting ready to re-enter his life working at Southwest Airlines, but not before he spends a month getting back into family life with his wife and children.

I'll give him the next year to settle into good old stateside service, but then I'm going to need to find a new Scoutmaster for Troop 104 as our current one retires.

I've got a good feeling that I know who is going on the short list. : )
