Musings, Ramblings and Scout Stuff
This blog is generally about what is piquing my interest at the moment which will probably be Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, or politics.

Each year in February the Granada Hills Service Unit, a subdivision of the Girl Scouts of the San Fernando Valley, celebrate and remember Girl Scouts around the world.
The event is called Thinking Day. Each troop who wishes to participate picks a country and then does some research and makes a display for other troops to enjoy.
The event has been at Patrick Henry Middle School for several years now.
My troop, Troop 1328 of Mission Hills, chose Greece. They learned about Greek food, culture and history.
A Scout mom in the service unit pleaded with them not to put on togas because every other troop who represented Greece in the past did that and the mom wanted to make a statement that a lot of things have happened in Greece over the past couple of millenia.
So, our girls worked on folk costumes.
We used music from "Zorba" and the girls went out to Los Angeles to a Greek Orthodox church and learned a folk dance. They made some kind of chicken kabob with cucumber yogurt sauce.
We recycled some of our old decorations and turned them into Greek columns for our display. The girls had a good time and won first place for booth decoration and second place for dancing.
We saw troops representing Lithuania, Russia, Iceland, Italy, China, Korea, Mexico, France and Sri Lanka, among others. There were skits, songs, dances, and a plethora of bite-sized culinary representations.
They had a great time. Opa!
