Blog Entry 36 of 36 Jen's AIDS/Lifeclye Quest

I will be raising money and training in order to participate in AIDS/Lifecycle 7, which is a 7 day, 545 mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles. I hope to raise a minimum of $2500 for the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center to help AIDS awareness and to help end AIDS. I was inspired to ride by my husband, John, when he returned from the ride in 2006. He did not ride with me this year, due to deployment to Iraq, but we both plan to ride together in 2008. So, it's been a while since I posted, but there has been lots of activity lately. I have continued to ride on a regular basis, and I have been asked to train as a Training Ride Leader for AIDS/Lifecycle!

It's nice that I will be able to help new riders as other Ride Leaders helped me over the last year.

The BIG news, though, is that John is on his way home!! He and his unit have left Iraq and are back on the ship, making their way back to California!

I have been breathing huge sighs of relief that he has made it out safe.

Of course the real celebrating will come when I get to see him in person again, but knowing that he is safely back on ship puts my mind at ease in ways I couldn't imagine.

I can't really express fully what the last sixmonths have been like, and what it feels like to begin getting ready for John's homecoming.

And with homecoming, we have lots of plans! First and foremost, a nice long rest for John. Then, the start of our life.

Meanwhile, we will be training together for next year's AIDS/Lifecycle, which I'm excited to say we will finally ride together.

I can't say it enough, it's just so wonderful to be making these kinds of plans!
