Blog Entry 35 of 36 Jen's AIDS/Lifeclye Quest

I will be raising money and training in order to participate in AIDS/Lifecycle 7, which is a 7 day, 545 mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles. I hope to raise a minimum of $2500 for the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center to help AIDS awareness and to help end AIDS. I was inspired to ride by my husband, John, when he returned from the ride in 2006. He did not ride with me this year, due to deployment to Iraq, but we both plan to ride together in 2008. Yesterday afternoon, the much anticipated time arrived - the moment I found out my rider number for next year's AIDS/Lifecycle.

AIDS/Lifecycle is a 545-mile bicycle ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise money and awareness for the services of the San Francisco Aids Foundation and The Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center.

Both agencies provided needed services and medications to those afflicted with HIV and AIDS. I started this journey in 2006, when I welcomed my husband, John, home from the ride and he talked me into riding in 2007.

As you have probably read in my previous blog entries, John was deployed to Iraq in April, so I rode on my own (with 2,300 of my fellow cyclists). When I returned, there was no question about whether I would do it again and I signed up at closing ceremonies (something that turns out to be a tradition for me, it appears).

This year, along with training and fundraising, I hope to become a training ride leader, so I can offer the encouragement and support to new riders that those wonderful ride leaders gave me as I nervously pedaled my way toward the goal of riding in AIDS/Lifecycle.

Along with the months of training I will (happily) endure for the next 10 months, I can now begin the fundraising process that helps the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center continue its services.

I'm so excited that this is beginning again. I know (mostly) what to expect and I know how much fun it's going to be.
