Join us on
March 18 that
7:30pm for a Chautauqa presentation:
Little House on a Small Planet, presented by
Shay Saloman! What fills a home when the excess is cut away?
Pockets of people all over the continent are realizing the benefits of scaling down. Living in less space can result in more room to enjoy it, and frees up your mind, your wallet, and your soul. Contrary to some popular norms, less is more.
Join Shay Salomon for an insightful evening and the inside look at living small. Discover how to build, remodel, redecorate, or profoundly rethink your needs. She will show how to think -some-times literally- outside the box, how to live close and simple, and how to apply spiritual and social solutions to your material desires. You, too, can build a joyful, sane life that emphasizes home life over home maintenance. By the end of the evening you will be asking, "How do I get there from here?"
Little House on a Small Planet (Lyons Press, September 2006) by Shay Salomon is your guidebook and invitation to the small house movement. The author and the photographer spent over eight years collecting floor plans, photographs, advice, essays, and anecdotes about North American small dwellings and the people who live in them. The result of her research is a unique exploration of self-help/home-improvement/social history book that asks the important questions and pro-vides the smart answers. Join the SMMC and MRCA in this special edition to the Chautauqua Series Pro-grams, to recapture and foster the original spirit of the Chautauqua movement, described by Theodore Roosevelt as "the most American thing in America." In the 1920's and 1930's, Temescal Canyon served as a major center of the Chatauqua Movement, drawing people by the thousands on their quests for enlightenment.
