At any given time, there are nearly 127,000 children in the United States waiting to be adopted. That's more people than the entire city of Topeka, Kan.
Judy Butts
, franchise owner of SeaMaster Cruises in Santa Clarita, is joining forces with a nationally-recognized nonprofit organization to start a pajama drive for the thousands of U.S. children who previously may not have known the comforts of a cozy pair of PJs.
It's called the Pajama Program.
Butts, along with a team of several other SeaMaster Cruises franchise owners across the country, set a goal of raising 50 pairs of pajamas each. All donations will be delivered to the nearest Pajama Program chapter, which is in Los Angeles.
Many franchise owners have exceeded raising their 50-pair goal.
All Santa Clarita, Valencia, Canyon Country, Stevenson Ranch and Castaic area residents are invited to donate new pajamas or make a monetary contribution to: The Pajama Program, 28621 Crystal Heights Court, Santa Clarita, CA 91387.
Donations will strictly be used to purchase new pajamas, which are then given to children's centers, hospitals and emergency facilities through the Pajama Program.
Call Butts with any questions at 661-251-7248. Collections will be accepted through September.
"I'm in the business of helping travel dreams come true, but it's my hope that our efforts will help area children in need sleep a little better and even do some dreaming of their own," Butts said.
"I chose to focus some of my charitable efforts this year on the Pajama Program because it gives directly back to children in local communities, and provides them with a tangible item that will immediately provide comfort to them in an otherwise unfortunate and even painful situation," she added.
