Red light! Green light! Is it time to go?
Contributed by: Glen Messick on 8/9/2006

Our fine area called the Santa Clarita Valley has many more traffic light cameras than many of our surroundings areas. I have read articles over the years tha tstate that the cameras have been installed to cut down people running red lights and to improve our accident rates at busy intersections.Although I believe the intention is good, there are some negatives about these cameras.

Often when driving around I see many drivers breaking before they reach a green light because there is some traffic and they do not want to get caught in an intersection.I have seen drivers almost become paralyzed by a light that they are approaching that has been green for a while.

Two days ago, I witnessed a appalling act. I witnessedtwo cars catch a bad break during a green left turning arrow, when a car deliberately came to a crawl, so that the cars behind would get caught in a intersection. There was no reason why this car should have almost stopped when there was no traffic in front of the car, but the drivers sat there laughing as if they were playing a game. Two cars were caught in the intersection and will receive red light tickets in the mail

I believe that there are some negative with these traffic cameras that seem to be everywhere these days.

Very valid point-there are too many people with nothing better to do then pull this type of prank. Those are the ones who need the tickets!
