A day filled with adoptable animals, pet lovers, and lots of family-friendly fun, the seventh annual Bow-Wows and Meows Pet Fair will take place on Sunday, Oct. 14, at Newhall's Hart Park.
The only event of its kind in the Santa Clarita Valley, last year's pet fair drew thousands of attendees from all over Los Angeles County and resulted in the adoption of more than 100 dogs and cats from local shelters.
This year, Bow-Wows & Meows will continue to offer a wide range of adoptable dogs and cats, as well as dozens of pet-related vendors and information booths devoted to education.
Whether attendees are looking to adopt a pet or not, it's a great activity for the whole family!
Free to the viewing public, popular events at Bow-Wows and Meows include: The Famous Fun Dog Show - competitions for categories such as Biggest/Smallest, Best Vocalist, Longest Tail/Largest Ears, Mystery Mutt, Fluffiest, Most Physically Challenged, Silly Pet Trick, Owner/Pet Look-Alike and more ($10 entry fee for participants - winners receive $50 gift certifications from Saugus' Pet Supply); agility and flyball demonstrations throughout the day; pet photographer and a low-cost vaccine clinic.
In addition, Bow Wows and Meows offers family-friendly activities in the Kids Zone, tasty people food, exciting raffles, and giveaways galore.
All proceeds from the event go directly to Bow Wows and Meows, a Valencia-based 501(c) 3 non-profit organization devoted to the possibility that "through education, awareness and inspiration, we will one day have more loving homes than homeless pets."
Bow-Wows and Meows was founded by Saugus resident and pet owner
Yvonne Allbee in 2001.
"I'm so grateful for how much love and companionship my dog and cat brought into my life. I realized that there are too many shelter animals that need loving families and thought the fair would be a good way to match those animals with potential families," Allbee said. "Since Bow-Wows & Meows started, we've adopted out over 500 animals. I cry tears of joy every time I see the shelter truck leave empty after the fair."
Bow-Wows and Meows Pet Fair will be held from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at William S. Hart Park, 24151 N. San Fernando Road, Newhall.
