Cute kittens get all the attention. I have to wonder why, after living with my two old mixed breed cats for the past 20 years. Mocha Blue , a mixed Blue Point Siamese and his lifelong friend, Bernie, a mixed yellow tiger cat , have lived through all the cat stages. I guess you could say, I have conducted my own official feline 20 year study.
Both cats have accomplished the goals that most humans strive all their lives to achieve. We want to be entertaining, popular and rich. What is more entertaining than two cats shucking an ear of corn with their teeth? My friends in Chicago visited our home in the suburbs just to witness this activity. That takes care of popularity and being the life of the party and it only took one trick. Bernie and Mocha have their own maid and butler, yours truly. They are very wealthy if wealth can be measured in material things like the softest and warmest place to sleep and a roof over your head. Do they ever want for a gourmet meal...I think not!
Yes, kittens are sweet and cute but it takes many years to learn to manipulate and rule the humans they share a home with. Old cats always get their own way and a nap whenever they please. A little kitten has to work very hard before it can reach this status level. Treat them like royalty from the beginning and enjoy them for 20 plus years to come.

Yes, I agree, old cats are wonderful. My cat is 13 years old and has me trained well.
