In its latest move toward victory in November, local Democrats on Saturday evening, April 26, are joining with San Fernando Valley Assemblyman
Felipe Fuentes
at the Democratic Club of the Santa Clarita Valley's Texas Hold-em fundraising event.
The event will be held at The Clubhouse, 24060 Oak Vale, Valencia, near the Vista Valencia Golf Course.
Assemblyman Fuentes will be attending the Democratic Club's signature event as local Democrats generate funds and synergy going into the Presidential election.
On the ballot forth at election will be the race for the 19th Senate District, currently held by termed-out extreme Republican
Tom McClintock
. Political observers are labeling Assemblywoman
Hanna-Beth Jackson
's campaign for the 19th District as one of the hottest and most competitive statewide campaigns in recent years.
"The fact that Assemblyman Fuentes will be attending our event signals the tenacity to which Democrats from the Santa Clarita Valley and beyond will place on this Senate race," explained
Mike Cruz
, vice president of the Democratic Club of the Santa Clarita Valley. "This race will be in our neck of the woods, and as we get closer to election day, local Democrats will pave the way for Jackson's victory."
The poker tournament fundraiser will also be a salsa dancing event. Lessons for the vibrant form of dancing will begin at 6:30 p.m., while the poker tournament will begin at 8 p.m. Prizes for the first-, second- and third-place winners will be given.
The event will end at 11 p.m.
There is a $35 buy-in fee for the poker tournament, with the price reduced to $25 for students with ID. Food and drinks will be served.
Local Democrats not involved in any Democratic Clubs are invited to attend.
"Any and all Democrats in the Santa Clarita Valley will have a seat atour poker tables," Cruz said. "As we approach November, events like this will help foster the growing Democratic registration in Santa Clarita and bring us closer as a Democratic community. That will bring us much closer to winning the 19th Senate District and obtaining the goals that unite us as Democrats: full funding of education and local schools, fixing our broken healthcare system and protecting our public lands."
