Saturday, October 7th is the deadline for submitting an application
to run for one of the five open seats on the Castaic Area Town Council.
The Castaic Area Town Council is an advisory board for the Los
Angeles County Board of Supervisors. The primary responsibilities include
reviewing new developments in the Castaic area and voting to recommend or not recommend, based on the information provided, including current
zoning codes governing a proposed development and input from the Castaic
Community.
Other responsibilities include providing information to the community
regarding safety issues, parks and recreation, and the continued implementation of the Castaic Community Standards District.
These volunteer positions require your attendance for two meetings a month, as well possible additional meetings if you are assigned to or volunteer for one of the Castaic Area Town Council committees.
The Council consists of ten council members, two from each of the five regions within Castaic. Term of service is for four years with a two term limit. Every two years half of the Council seats are up for election.
This year's election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
In order to run a candidate shall be:
~ At least 18 years of age.
~ A resident of Castaic for a minimum of one year.
~ A registered voter within the boundaries of the
Castaic Area Town Council.
(A candidate can only be elected and serve in the
region in which they reside.)
The Castaic Area Town Council is divided into the following regions:
Region 1 - Live Oak, North Bluffs, Hasley Hills, and Hillcrest Park.
Region 2 - Val Verde.
Region 3 - Hasley, Sloan, and Romero Canyons.
Region 4 - Meadowwood, Bravo/Encore, Lake Hills Mobile Estates, Lake View,
Church/Cherry/Ferguson, and the Castaic area east of theI-5 and south of Lake Hughes Road
Region 5 - Double C Ranch, Hidden Lake, Stonegate, Northlake, Paradise
Ranch, and the Castaic area east of the I-5 and north of Lake Hughes Rd.
In order to run you need to submit a letter of interest and qualifications.
A $75 filing fee is also required for any person interested in running for a position on the Council.
The letter of interest and filing fee need to be delivered or postmarked by Saturday, Oct. 7.
