The Brittany Foundation's dogs and staff now have it made in the shade, thanks to the generous donation of seven 15-gallon fruitless mulberry trees from Valencia's Stay Green Inc.
Six members of Stay Green management and staff planted the trees at the Agua Dulce non-profit humane organization on Oct. 3.
"This was an opportunity for us to create an environment that makes a lasting difference for animals and the people who work and volunteer there daily," said
Chris Angelo, vice president of Stay Green. "I'm hoping it provides some shade and a place to relax for the animals and makes a positive impact on the people who help them, as well."
The Stay Green donation marks the second-phase completion of Project Dogway, the Brittany Foundation's 70' x 30' fenced dog run.
"We are so excited and grateful to Stay Green. The trees have really added beauty to our kennels and Project Dogway," said Brittany Foundation Founder
Nancy Anderson. "Since this is where we hold our weekly adoptions, having a landscaped, shaded area helps us make a positive impression on potential dog parents."
Angelo encourages the community to spay and neuter their animals, as well as become involved with organizations such as the Brittany Foundation.
"I had the vision, but
Rene Rivera and the rest of the Stay Green team were able to execute it for us because they believed in it. They felt really good about themselves after they finished," Angelo said. "We are all responsible for the well-being of domestic animals."
Donations of sod, pea gravel, professional services, and gift cards to home improvement stores are being sought to finish "Project Dogway."
