'Project Dogway' underway with Andy Gump donation
Contributed by: Michelle Sathe on 5/15/2008

You couldn't wipe the smile off Megan's face. After a full trot around the yard and lots of sniffing, the 7-year old homeless Boxer finally took a rest inside the Brittany Foundation's Project Dogway.

The 75' x 100' enclosed dog run became a reality when Andy Gump Inc. generously donated and installed a fence for the nonprofit humane organization on May 3.

"I feel so bad for these dogs from puppy mills or shelters that don't have homes. What I like about the Brittany Foundation is that no dog is killed," said Nancy Gump, vice president of Andy Gump Inc. "Donating the fence was something little we could do that will hopefully go a long way to help these dogs enjoy life while they await adoption."

With the first phase of Project Dogway complete, donations of landscaping materials, professional services or labor, cash and/or gift cards to home improvement stores are being sought to finish the project.

"Today, Project Dogway gives our dogs a place to release their energy and play and we're so grateful for that," said Brittany Foundation founder Nancy Anderson. "Ultimately, we want to expand it to a pretty, interactive area where they can bond with families that might want to take them home. This could make all the difference in making a positive impression on potential dog parents."

In addition to Andy Gump's donation, approximately $750 has been raised through private donations, including a $500 gift made by a local businesswoman who wished to remain anonymous.

A self-admitted dog lover, Gump issued a challenge to other local businesses to participate. "Whether it's donating services or money, it only takes a little bit to make a big difference in the lives of these animals," she said. "I encourage our community to come on board and help with Project Dogway. The animals can't help themselves, but we can help them."
