Anna Ott, president of Valencia golf apparel hot spot Bellasport, was named as one of 11nominees for the prestigious Santa Clarita Valley Woman of the Year award during the organization's Paparazzi Party on March 26.

Nominees are chosen by Santa Clarita Valley non-profits to honor volunteers for their exceptional contributions. Ott was nominated by the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley for her 10 years of service and hands-on participation in the club's annual events, such as Festival of Trees, auction and golf tournament.

"Anna hasn't figured out how to say no to us yet," said Ivan Price, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley Foundation. "She's the kind of volunteer that steps forth with her time, talents, and funds whenever we need her."

For Ott, a contender for the Woman of the Year award in 2005, being in the running for 2008 was enough of a reward.

"You look at this crowd and it's amazing that all of them donate their time and money to so many worthwhile causes," she said.

"It's about being part of your community and making it the best place to live in as possible," she added. "I love Santa Clarita, so when I see a need, especially with kids, I want to help in any way that I can."

A round of applause erupted in the crowd when Price announced that Ott, the current president-elect of the Boys & Girls Club Santa Clarita Valley Foundation, will become the foundation's first female president in 2009.

Jim Ventress, chief professional officer for the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley, had no doubt that Ott could handle the job.

"Anna brings a certain passion and attention to detail to our club. She really cares about our kids, mission, and values," Ventress said. "On a scale of one to 10, it's a 10 in my mind that she'll be fantastic in the position of Foundation president."
