Hawaiian Lua exhibit opens at museum
Contributed by: Michael Matsuda on 8/20/2007

One of the more unusual and fascinating art forms is the Hawaiian Lua: a Hawaiian form of martial arts. From the use of island weapons to shark-teethed swords, the Martial Arts History Museum is proud to open the Lua Exhibit at the museum on Saturday, August 25 at 3 p.m.

Solomon Kaihewalu is to be the museum's special guest as he cuts the ribbon opening the new Hawaiian exhibit. Kaihewalu, being inducted into the Museum's Hall of Fame this year, will provide a traditional ceremony on the exhibit opening, a historical talk on Hawaiian history and provide a unique demonstration on many of the Hawaiian weapons.

The new exhibit consists of a variety of shark-teeth swords and knives, island style clubs and staffs and a historical look at ancient Hawaii.

"At the museum, we try to provide unique opportunities for the general public to develop an understanding of the history and art surrounding the martial arts," notes museum president Michael Matsuda. "Every week, we bring something different to the museum so that people can learn about our the uniqueness of these amazing art forms. This will be an event you will enjoy."

The museum is located at 24406 San Fernando Road, Santa Clarita. Entrance into the museum is required. For info, call (661) 255-3322 or visit MAmuseum.com.
