Passport Introduces Wines from Around the World
Contributed by: Teresa Todd on 2/12/2008

Great wines often come from far away places. At least that's what wine lovers can expect during 2008 as Vino 100 Valencia rolls out their special "Around the World with Vino 100" passport program beginning in February. Each month, the locally-owned and operated wine specialty store features wines from different wine growing regions throughout the world.

Customers will receive a special Vino 100 passport promotional card at the store located at 28112 Newhall Ranch Road in Valencia. With every wine purchase from selected countries, they will receive a passport stamp and customer-loyalty points (standard with every purchase). Buy two bottles of wines featured that month, and customers also receive promotional items, while supplies last. Throughout the month wine tastings and special events will accompany each featured destination.

For customers completing the passport program, each will receive 200 bonus customer-loyalty points, along with a chance to win a grand prize drawing to be awarded at the end of the program for a one-night stay in Los Olivas or Santa Barbara, which includes complimentary tastings at two local wineries.

February features wines from South Africa, one of the most impressive newcomers on the global market. Considered a New World wine producer, it is now the eighth largest wine producer in the world. In the eleven year span from 1994 to 2005, exports increased more than 450 percent.

Although most vine varieties cultivated in the vineyards of South Africa were originally imported, up to six local crossings have been released. The best known South African variety is Pinotage, a red variety hybrid of Pinot Noir and Hermitage, also known as Cinsaut. It is often blended with two of the continent's best varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.

During the month of February, customers may choose from an impressive selection of wines such as Cape Haven 2004 Pinotage and Tumara 2005 Pinotage. Other popular labels include KMV 2006 Steen, Ken Forrester 2007 Petit Chenin Blanc and Black Pearl 2003 Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon blend.

Not only has the country captured world attention for its quality wines, but it has also captured the heart of consumers with its eco-friendly conservation efforts. In the short span of the past two-and-a-half years, South Africa has set aside the equivalent of half its total national vineyard with a goal of achieving 100 percent by the end of the decade. These are lands that will be replanted with native fauna and restored to their pristine state for perpetuity.

Today, South Africa is a vibrant country with enormous diversity; a place where African, European and Eastern cultures have mingled for more than three centuries. That diversity is reflected in their wine with structure that's complex yet accessible, refined yet powerful.

In addition to international wines, Vino 100 also carries an impressive selection of domestic and California wines and products. "We know our customers are looking for exceptional quality as well as affordable prices, so we have expanded our selection to include fine premium wines, ports and sparkling wines," says co-owner Shari Frazier.

"At Vino 100 Valencia, you'll enjoy buying wine as much you will enjoy drinking it."

Vino 100 is located at 28112 Newhall Ranch Road at the intersection of Copper Hill Drive in Valencia. For more information, call (661) 294-6886 or visit www.vino100valencia.com
