Cookbooks Plus opens kitchen for lessons
Contributed by: Carol Rock on 12/4/2006

Happy Holidays to All! We have lots of books & other goodies ready to fill your gift list needs, and we're constantly adding new items. Stop by and check us out!

OUR BIG NEWS is that we finally have our kitchen installed. I worked on
the layout for almost three months, drawing and redrawing it, trying to
fit everything in, with the contractor always sending me back to the
drawing board because we can't get the water to the sink here, or we
can't run a gas line there, or...well, you get the picture.

Of course, once we got everything in, we realized there isn't a
single drawer in the kitchen. Ah, the fun begins. We're currently
scrambling to outfit the kitchen...pots, pans, utensils, etc.

And speaking of kitchen fun, we're gearing up to start our cooking
events. And here's the best part...to celebrate our inauguration, all
December events are FREE! We're only asking that you pay a nominal
materials fee.

Here's what we're offering:

Sunday, 12/10 at 1:00-3:00 p.m. The Hanukkah Feast! We'll be making
potato latkes, sweet potato latkes, brisket and other goodies (Materials
fee: $10.00)

Monday, 12/11 at 7:00-9:00 p.m. Gifts From Your Kitchen! Whether you
need something nice for casual acquaintances or an exceptional treat on
top of other gifts for the special people on your list, we'll give you
some great ideas. Plus you'll get some terrific wrapping and
packaging suggestions. Be prepared to take lots of goodies home with you!
(Materials fee: $12.00)

Tuesday, 12/12 at 4:00-5:00 p.m. A special session for kids ages 4 to
6. Reba Lawless-Berdakin will lead your children through a cooking
lesson which includes hands-on food preparation coordinated with
story-telling. The little will learn about kitchen tools, basic cooking terms, and
will have an opportunity to express their creative side! And best of
all, they will bring home the goodies they've made, giving family
members a chance to heap praise & admiration on the budding chefs!
(Materials fee: $10.00)

Wednesday, 12/13 at 4:00-5:30 p.m. Reba Lawless-Berdakin will guide 7
to 10 year olds through a fun session with hands-on cooking and
interesting & fun food facts. Students will make calzones & trail mix. Reba has a special way of combining several topics into her lessons so the kids
always stay interested & focused. The youngsters also get to take home
the foods they've made! (Materials fee: $10.00)

Thursday, 12/14 7:00-9:00 p.m. Christmas Cookies! All kinds...some old
favorites & some new ones you're going to love! (Materials fee:
$10.00)

Saturday, 12/16 2:00 Demonstration of kitchen tools (Materials fee: not
applicable)

Monday, 12/18 at 7:00-9:00 p.m. Holiday Appetizers, Hors d'oeuvre,
and Other Finger Foods! You'll be amazed at how many delicious yet
simple dishes we'll put together! (Materials fee: $12.00)

Monday, 12/18 at 7:00-9:00 p.m. A repeat of the Gifts From Your Kitchen
session (see Monday, 12/11 at 7:00-9:00 p.m.) (Materials fee: $12.00)

THE INEVITABLE FINE PRINT SECTION: Class size is very limited. Children's classes: 6-8 children per class. We will also need one or
two mothers (or fathers) to help out, and recommend that parents remain on the premises. Adult classes: 8-10 people. Only enrollees will be allowed in the kitchen. Unfortunately, we cannot provide babysitting services, so please make other arrangements for them. Limit of one free session per person.

We're working on an online registration which we hope to have ready
for January. For December, sign up for sessions in our store ONLY. All fees are payable at time of enrollment and are non-refundable. When maximum enrollment is met, a waiting list will be started. (Details will be given at that time.) It's nice to have help setting up before & cleaning up after. Volunteers will have fees refunded after the session.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
