SCV Sheriff's Thanksgiving gift basket drive
Contributed by: Laurie Baylis on 10/25/2007

Thanksgiving is the time of year to give thanks for all that we have.

Even here in the Santa Clarita Valley, there are those who struggle to put food on their table. You can help by providing a Thanksgiving gift basket. It's fun, it's easy and it's a great way to give back.

We have listed the recommended items you can put into your gift box. Be creative and involve the kids:

1. Use a medium-sized box similar to that which holds copy paper.
2. Wrap the box in Thanksgiving Harvest motif.
3. Place the various food items into the box to make the Thanksgiving Day special and nourishing.
4. Send a note from your group with the box wishing the family kind Thanksgiving thoughts.
5. Drop off the gift baskets between Nov. 12 and 19 at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.

Listed below are the items suggested for each box:
Breakfast: boxed cereal, oatmeal, boxed juices, coffee, tea
Lunch: peanut butter and jelly, tuna fish, crackers, cookies, chips
Dinner: canned beans, corn, yams, corn bread, muffin mix, boxed potatoes, cranberry sauce, apple sauce, canned fruit, hot cocoa mix, sparkling cider

You can also include apie or pie gift certificate, a turkey gift certificate or a $10 grocery store gift certificate.
