In honor of National Breast Cancer Month in October, the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation will host a series of fundraising events to benefit the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center located on the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital campus.
Starting October 7 with the Longaberger Benefit of Hope Tea, the awareness events will conclude with the 9 th Annual Crawford-Fleming Golf Invitational on October 22. Last year, the popular golf event raised $163,000 for the center, the only dedicated breast imaging facility in Santa Clarita.
Additionally, on November 11, breast cancer awareness spokeswoman
Terry Minassian will model at the HMNMH Guild Fashion Show to take place at the Universal Sheraton.
According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is currently the most common cancer among women, accounting for nearly 1 in 3 cancers diagnosed; over 211,000 cases were diagnosed in 2006.
"Most of us know someone who has been impacted by breast cancer, either directly or indirectly," said
Diana Vose, HMNMH Foundation president. "Our community is committed to fighting this disease by raising awareness and funds that will help women detect breast cancer as early as possible. Early detection is the best weapon we have in saving lives."
