An 11-year-old student, a veteran magician who builds and repairs props for people over the world, a senior electrician for the L.A. Unified School District, a librarian and a singer are among those set to take the stage at the second annual magic show fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club of the Santa Vlarita Valley on Saturday, March 29.
Ring 280 of the International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM) will showcase the talents of its members at the show. The IBM ring is made up of residents from the Santa Clarita and San Fernando valleys.
After having a sold-out crowd in 2007, this year will feature two performances, with the doors opening at 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. for an hour of close-up magic, followed by a two-hour stage show. The first show will begin at 2 p.m., the second at 7 p.m.
"At some time in their lives, most men have purchased, performed or owned a magic trick, but more often than not, that spark is not fanned into a flame. IBM Ring 280 encourages its members to take the simple tricks and turn them into entertaining magic," said
Mark Wray
, producer for this year's show and a resident of Northridge.
"There is a difference between entertaining and performing. It does not require an earth-shattering magic effect to entertain an audience, but the greatest illusion is nothing without the personality behind it bringing the audience to a new experience of the senses," he added.
"An Evening of Magic" will take place inside the Boys & Girls Club's gymnasium at 24909 Newhall Ave. in Santa Clarita.
"You don't want to miss the show. It will be another great experience for the entire family. And again, the proceeds are going to a really worthy cause - our local Boys & Girls Club,"
Lonnie Dilan
, president of IBM, said. "I encourage everyone to buy their tickets before they vanish."
Seating is limited. For more information or tickets, which are $10, please call 661-254-2582 or visit
