Museum to host Chinese Cultural Day

Southern Chinese Lion dancing, introduction to Chinese words and phrases, a taste of Shaolin Kung Fu and fun learning puzzles for kids to study the Chinese language will be part of the Chinese Cultural Day at the Martial Arts History Museum in the city of Santa Clarita at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11.

Grandmaster Douglas Lim Wong and Carrie Ogawa-Wong will give a talk about the history of Chinese Lion dancing, how to use the drums, cymbols and gongs and provide a series of lessons teaching young kids how to lion dance.

Thoughout the day, children will be introduced to Mandarin Chinese language and learn the basic phrases. There will also be a workshop with puzzles and coloring pages to explain the language in a fun environment.

The history of Chinese Kung Fu in America will be explained by Museum President Michael Matsuda, a Monkey kung fu master of over 30 years.

A demonstraton on Chinese Kung Fu will be presented by both the White Lotus Kung Fu school and the Valencia Kung Fu school.

Chinese Kung Fu weapons will also be explained and demonstrated for the audience.

The Martial Arts History Museum is located at 24406 San Fernando Road (renamed to Main Street), Santa Clarita.
