During the April 28 Unitarian Universalist Pacific Southwest District Assembly,
Rick Kamlet
, a member of the Santa Clarita "UU" church, was presented with The Unsung Unitarian Universalist Award. The award is given to those whose actions inspire, express and support UU ideals. It's an honor for volunteers only, not professional staff.
"Mr. Kamlet brings with him an impressive diversity of talents which he shares generously and consistently with our congregation," said Rev.
Ricky Hoyt
, minister of the local church. "Furthermore, the attitude with which he shares seems entirely uncolored by ego gratification. It is truly selfless service. He simply does what needs to be done and gives what needs giving."
Kamlet's contributions to the local church include, but are not limited to: Church founder, first president of the congregation, developer and editor of the church newsletter, photographer and sound technician, website developer/editor and special event coordinator for "Movies to Talk About," a monthly church outreach activity.
"Rick is one of the church's primary 'thought leaders," said
Allan Hauptfeld
, president of the congregation. "He has not only been a tireless contributor to since the inception of our church, but also a driving force."
Said former president
John Cooper
, "Rick is always the person in the church doing the thing nobody else wants to do, or has the skill to do at that time. When others arise willing and able to take over, he graciously moves on to the next most necessary job."
Unitarian Universalists (UU's) draw upon the teachings of many of the world's faiths to help individuals build their own theology. The church is built around a set of values rather than a fixed belief system. Services are held each Sunday, 10:30 AM, at the SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market St., in Newhall. For directions and further information, visit www.UUofSCV.org or call 661-254-7866.
