If you're beginning to miss the holiday spirit, "A Laura Ingalls Wilder Christmas"is a heartwarming tale of the Ingalls family that will rekindle it as it captures your heart.
In their poorest winter ever, Charles Ingalls (played by
Billy Davis
on Saturdays and
Jarod Scott
on Sundays) back-tracks his family to Iowa, to take over the running of a hotel. When wealthy Mrs. Starr (
Valerie Gould
) asks for Laura (
Emma Gould
) as a companion to read to her in the afternoons.
Laura is overjoyed to be invited into such a fine house, but when she overhears Mrs. Starr offer to adopt Laura as her own daughter to ease the burden of so many children, Laura is certain that Ma (
Kelly Bader)
and Pa will give her up.
As Christmas morning approaches, Laura is faced with a decision: Will she choose what she believes is best for the family or will she find a way to stay with Pa, Ma, Mary (
Marissa Munter
) and Carrie (
Kelly Gould
)?
J.T. Friedman
plays Johnny Steadman, who Laura says is "the worst boy I every met."
This original play presents the poignant story of the "missing" two years in the life of the Ingalls family and is the only substantial period that Laura chose not to write about in her "Little House" books.
Told with period songs and humor, "A Laura Ingalls Wilder Christmas" tells a story of healing that celebrates the importance of enduring family bonds.
The show opens on March 22, with Saturday matinees at 1 p.m. and Sunday twilight shows at 6:30 p.m. through April 19. There will be a Sunday matinee on April 20 and no performances on Sunday, March 23.
The understudies are scheduled to perform on Saturday, April 5.
Tickets are $9 - $11 - $14 and are available by calling the Canyon Theatre Guild's box office at 661-799-2702.
The Canyon Theatre is located at 24242 Main St. in downtown Newhall.
