The SCV Film Festival's Second Youth Night, held Sunday, August 26, was another huge success!
Hosted by the Repertory East Playhouse, the night featured the premiere of 8 films made by students of the SCV Film Center's three summer camp programs. Participating youth had the opportunity to field questions about their projects, which ranged from short animated films to live action thrillers,
comedies and more.
"Youth Night is a great event. Seeing the excitement and joy of the students as their films are shown on the big screen is very rewarding," explained
Ramon Hamilton
, Executive Director of the SCV Film Festival.
"It is also great to hear the students answering questions about the filmmaking process, demonstrating how much they have learned. Their parents and friends were pleased and impressed."
The hands-on approach used by the SCV Film Center and its emphasis on nurturing the creativity and ideas of the youth participating in its workshops makes the Film Center's filmmaking workshops truly unique. Students learn to work together, writing their own screenplay on Final Draft, a professional
screenwriting software, shooting, directing and acting in their film project(s), and editing the film with Final Cut Pro, a professional editing software. Students also learn about sound editing, music and sound effects as they refine and finalize their project(s).
The SCV Film Center will continue and expand its After-School Filmmaking Workshops this fall with Sam's Club partnering to support these programs. "We are excited about our ability to continue growing and expanding. The support we are receiving from Sam's Club is a big part of that expansion," said Hamilton.
The SCV Film Festival's expansion during this past year to include a film center and ongoing programs for youth builds upon their successful annual event which brings quality independent films to the Santa Clarita Valley and offers educational and insightful workshops for filmmakers.
The Third Annual SCV Film Festival is just around the corner! It will be held November 1 - 4 at the Repertory East Playhouse and promises to deliver the
same quality of films and workshops as it has in the past. Past festivals have included locally made films, as well as high quality independent films from
throughout the U.S. and world, including short films recognized by the Academy Awards.
