Contemporary Art Exhibit at COC Art Gallery

The College of the Canyons Art Gallery will showcase the work of three emerging Los Angeles artists from Oct. 27 through Nov. 17, who all share one thing in common: they were all former students of Richard Shelton.

Christophe Cassidy, Arnaud Damasceno and Stacie Jaye Meyer studied under Shelton, who graduated from the Chouinard Art Institute (know known as Cal Arts), and has recently retired as a faculty member at the Otis Art Institute. Shelton has exhibited widely and his work is included in many public and private collections throughout the United States including the Hirshhorn Museum.

The work exhibited is mostly oil and acrylic-based paintings in the contemporary style.

"We are thrilled to welcome a well established artist such as Richard Shelton and three emerging artists to share their work at the gallery," said Larry Hurst, the gallery director at the college.

The exhibition's reception will be held from 3-6 p.m. on Oct. 27. On Nov. 8 at 12:30 p.m., COC faculty member, Robert Walker will conduct a round table discussion with the artists as part of the gallery's new speaker series. The public is welcome to attend and bring their lunch.

The COC Art Gallery is open from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. on Mondays, from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. on Tuesdays through Thursdays and from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. on Saturdays.

Visitors unable to attend during these hours are welcome to call the gallery at (661) 362-3612 to make an appointment.
