Staying green! 2008 Girl Scout Hall of Honor
Contributed by: shron McNally-Mobley on 5/21/2008

Sixty-four graduating senior Girl Scouts from all over Santa Clarita were honor at the Hall of Honor recently.

The Hall of Honor is a formal ceremony recognizing Girl Scouts who are graduating from both high hchool and Girl Scouts. It was held this year at Arroyo Seco Junior High.

Guests and Scouts from all over Santa Clarita were greeted at the entrance by Boy Scouts Danny and Timmy Compton, Troop 228, presenting them with programs.

Introductions and masters of ceremony for the evening were handled by Gail Davis, director of membership and marketing, and Robin Ewing, membership and programs manager, both of Girl Scouts-Joshua Tree Council, Santa Clarita Valley Region.

Flag ceremony and color guard were performed by Cadettes Carissa Gonzales, Sarah Miller, Bo Mobley, Lauren Ruffner and Miranda Tarquinio, all from Troop 106.

"Circle of Girl Scouting," a poem written by Daphne Spiers, was recited by Girl Scouts Lauren Bradt, Troop 280, and Ashlea Linn, Troop 646.

Gail and Robin asked all graduating senior girl scouts to come forward. The stage was overflowing with 31 proud, young graduating seniors Girl Scouts. A list of their favorite memories at each level of Girl Scouting was read and brought laughter to many.

Staying green is so much more than wearing uniforms, doing crafts, selling cookies, earning badges, camping and community service projects. A long list of all their extremely busy lives and accomplishments including Girl Scouts was read.

These Scouts somehow found a way to balance academic and extra-curricular activities, jobs, college plans, social, family life and still remain active in Girl Scouting.

Every Girl Scout present had earned her Silver Award, the highest honor a Cadette can earn except one. Four Senior Girl Scoutsstepped forward who had completed their Gold Award project, the highest honor a Senior Girl Scout can earn.

A fellow Girl Scout representing each level of their girl scouting years, Daisy, Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes and Seniors, filled a vase building a bouquet of flowers and bows symbolizing each scout level and highest awards.

Each senior then lit a long white candle to hold while a poem was read about how they have contributed to our community and the impact they had left on many.

Once their name was called, they blew out their candle, removed their vest full of badges pins, awards and other insignias, bringing prideful tears to many scouts, parents and leaders, to be replaced with a Girl Scout achievement medal around their neck, a welcome to adult Girl Scouting pin and their own bouquet of flowers.

To the seniors' relief, their vests were returned to them. Scouting years are full of wonderful memories and that the doors of their future will be a little easier to open because of all they learned and gained during their Girl scout experiences.

Many of these girls have been in Girl Scouting since Daisy level.Thirteen years of being green.

A word of thanks to their amazing leaders who supported their troops ended the ceremony.

Leaders make a difference for girls every day - they give generously of their time, their energy and their caring. they too stayed green. Group hugs and shutter bugsascended onto the 2008 Girl Scout Hall of Honor graduating seniors. Dessert followed.

The Hall of Honor committee consisted of volunteer Girl Scout leaders - Joan Bradt, Tracy Linn, Sharon McNally-Mobley. Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.
