Thousands of parents will head back to school over the next month as guests at back-to-school nights scheduled by schools in the William S. Hart Union High School District.
The programs range from elaborate displays and performances by student groups to a simple reception. All include an opportunity for parents to follow their children's class schedules to meet teachers and learn about such issues as classroom expectations, homework assignments and discipline.
Scheduled events include:
Canyon High School - Sept. 20 - 7 p.m.
Golden Valley High School- Sept. 11 - Parent Information meetings start at 6:15 p.m.; principal's welcome and performances at 7 p.m. in the amphitheater; classroom visitations 7:30 to 8:50 p.m.
Hart High School - Sept. 18 - Performances by the band, dance and choral groups at 6 p.m. in the auditorium with a welcome from Principal
Collyn Nielsen at 6:30 p.m. Class visits start at 6:45 p.m., continuing at 10-minute intervals. There will be performancesby Folklórico dancers and information tables hosted by many Hart clubs in the quad throughout the evening.
Saugus High School - Sept. 11 - 5:30 to 9 p.m. Principal's reception, 5:30 p.m.; formal presentations and performances, with a patriotic theme, begin at 6 p.m. in the amphitheater, followed by classroom visits starting at 6:30 p.m. Food will be available for sale.
Valencia High School - Sept. 26 - Principal's reception in the central quad, 6:30 p.m.; performances and displays by booster clubs, 7 p.m. in the quad; classroom visits, 6:45 to 9:10 p.m. Parking in the student lot, Dickason at Smyth Drive.
West Ranch High School - Sept. 6
Arroyo Seco Junior High - Sept. 6 - Parents of students in the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program will meet at 6 p.m. Band performance on the outdoor stage, 6:30 p.m.; classroom visits, 7 to 8:30 p.m.
La Mesa Junior High - Sept. 6 - 7:15 p.m., classroom visits and welcome. School Site Council parent membership election at 7:25 p.m. in A period classrooms.
Placerita Junior High - Sept. 11 - Parents of students in the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program will meet at 6 p.m. in Tanner Hall; parents of students in the English Language Learner (ELL) program will meet at 6 p.m. in the library. Classroom visitations will be from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. Special ceremony for students and parents who "Took It to the Next Level" on the STAR test - 6:30 p.m., quad, by invitation.
Rancho Pico Junior High - Sept. 20 - 6:30 p.m.
Rio Norte Junior High - Sept. 11
Sierra Vista Junior High - Sept. 6 - Elective demonstrations and performances start at 6 p.m.; classroom visits, 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Academy of the Canyons - Sept. 26
Bowman High School- Sept. 25 - 7 to 8:15 p.m., includes classroom visits, a drum circle, free pizza, a Scholastic book fair and an Astro-jump with supervision for younger siblings. Parents of students in the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) and and English Learners programs will meet at 6:15 p.m. in portables C and B.
