Mercedes Hits A Grand Slam with Hart Families
Contributed by: John Tenorio on 4/1/2008

Mercedes-Benz of Valencia is Grand Slam Sponsor of Hart Pony League.

Santa Clarita, CA-Mercedes-Benz of Valencia has continued its community support by becoming a Grand Slam sponsor of Hart Pony Baseball and Softball league. The sponsorship has the potential of providing an additional $15,000.00 to the Hart league. "This sponsorship is a natural match for Hart and Mercedes," says Hart's volunteer Hart Director of Communications, John Tenorio. "Hart is literally next door to the Mercedes dealership and all families, coaches, and players must drive past Mercedes on their way to the Hart complex. It helps when the dealership's owners are big time baseball people."

Mercedes-Benz of Valencia is owned by three partners whose names are synonymous with baseball-Eddie Murray, Kevin Malone, and Lenny Sage. Eddie Murray was a long time Major League Baseball player who was bestowed the honor of being inducted to Major League Baseball's Hall of Fame. Kevin Malone has had an incredible career in youth, college, and professional baseball, completing his tenure as general manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Lenny Sage is also involved with youth baseball as a coach, manager, and supporter. "Supporting the youth of our community is very important to all of us at Mercedes-Benz of Valencia," says Kevin Malone. "This is an opportunity for us to reach out to and assist the boys, girls, and the families of Hart, and to demonstrate that we are imbedded in this fine community while offering world-class vehicles."

The Mercedes/Hart Pony sponsorship allows for the continuation of donations to the Hart Baseball and Softball organization. The dealership initially donated $2,000.00 to the youth sports organization. Thereafter, the dealership will donate $250.00 to Hart for every vehicle sold to a Hart member family. After every 10 vehicles are sold, the dealership will donate another $2,500.00 to Hart.

"We are excited to have a Grand Slam sponsor like Mercedes-Benz of Valencia. They seem to be a natural for our organization," said Hart President Paul Silveri. "Upon our meetings with Eddie, Kevin, and Lenny, it was evident that they are strong supporters of youth sports. After all, this is all for the kids and their families."

Attendees at the Hart complex will be able to gauge the vehicle sales to Hart families from a large sign sporting a thermometer. Each time a qualifying vehicle is sold, the reading on the thermometer rises. Both the dealership and Hart officials would like that thermometer to continue rising. In addition to assisting with donations to Hart, persons connected to the Hart Pony organization who purchase a vehicle at Mercedes-Benz of Valencia will receive a complimentary gift. Coupons for this gift are available at the complex's canteen office.

The Hart Baseball and Softball organization has been in existence since 1954. With nearly 2,500 players, Hart is considered among the largest youth sports organization in the United States. Hart also attracts over 1,000 players during the various tournaments held at the complex, and hundreds more now that high school baseball and softball is played on the various fields. During the Spring season, more than 4,600 games are played at Hart. To Tenorio and Silveri, this organization is well positioned to attract wonderful sponsors like Mercedes. " Mercedes-Benz of Valencia is typical of how business and non-profits can continue to assist each other and their community. With Mercedes, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship," said Tenorio.
