The La Crescenta Falcons 10-year-old baseball team, in preparing for its week-long tournament in Cooperstown, N.Y., this summer, won the Spring Fling Tournament in Huntington Beach.
The team only lost one game in pool play and won the championship game 6 - 4, behind the pitching of
Alex Hall and
Joey McClure and catcher
Kyle Currie.
The team had an impressive on-base percentage of over 600 percent for the tournament. In the final game,
Andrew Gutierrez had two RBI's and scored once and
Chris Reik and
Greg Stupakis stole extra base hits in the outfield with major league catches.
On Saturday,
Gonzalo Rios went 6-for-6,
Wyatt Ernst went 4-for-6 and
Cameron Wetherby had one triple, three doubles and six singles for the tournament.
On Sunday,
Marco Angrisani took a fast ball to the cheek and still scored that run - nothing was going to stop these champions. It was a long weekend of baseball and a hard-fought battle by the young Falcons team.
