Glendale Friendship Games - Calling participants
Contributed by: Atineh Haroutunian on 7/24/2007

Are you are an aspiring athlete? Do you like to compete in sports tournaments with participants in your age group?

Then you need to participate in the second annual Glendale Friendship Games from 10 a.m -9 p.m. Oct. 13 and 14 at Glendale High School.

For the second year in a row, Homenetmen Glendale Ararat Chapter is hosting and organizing the Glendale Friendship Games for the Glendale community. Young athletes are invited to take part in a variety of sports tournaments, making these games the largest youth athletic events ever hosted in Glendale.

All local schools and non-profit organizations are encouraged to send their students, members or teams to participate in basketball, chess, volleyball, soccer, table tennis, swimming, and tennis, and compete with similar aspiring sports stars in their same age level.

Registration forms are available on Ararat's Web site, www.ararat.org.

"The goal of these friendship games is to promote unity, bring us all together in a friendly competitive manner," said Armond Gorgorian, executive director for Homenetmen Glendale Ararat Chapter. "We want to give the opportunity for youth from different backgrounds to take part in these games to celebrate our diversity in a friendly setting. There's no better way to bring people together than with sports."

Homenetmen Ararat Chapter anticipates a good turn-out for these games and encourages all community-based organizations and schools in Glendale to participate and get involved.

Participants have the opportunity to sign up for each of the sports competitions offered. The organizing committee has met with local athletic directors and coaches from a variety of schools and organizations for their input and suggestions for the games this year.

The organizing committee is also looking for local businesses to sponsor this event.

On Oct. 14, a closing ceremony and festival will be held at Glendale High School to bring the games to an end. The festival will include music, food and dancing. The Glendale community is encouraged to attend.

If individuals, schools or organizations are interested in participating in the competitions or for more information aboutparticipation and sponsorships, call (323) 256-2564 or visit the Web site to download registration forms.

All registered participants will receive a free T-shirt to wear during the games.
