Inductees named for 2007 Hall of Fame
Ron Wielochowski, Marji Gilles, Steve Messmer, Don Bennett and Ted Tiffany will be inducted into the Glendale Community College Athletic Hall of Fame. The sixth annual induction ceremony and banquet will take place Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 5:00 p.m. on campus at the J. Walter Smith Student Center.
Wielochowski was the most valuable player for the Vaqueros in the 1963-64 season and still holds the Glendale record for points scored in a season and highest scoring average. Marji Gilles competed in track and field and won the state championship in the triple jump in 1990 and still holds the school record in the triple jump and high jump. She was also a CIF champion in the triple jump from Burbank High. Messmer was a tremendous tennis player for hall of fame coach Chuck Gibson who went on to play at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. Bennett coached football at Glendale from 1961-65 and led the team to two bowl games and coached several players who went on to play college and pro football including Jim Sartoris and Mike Hull. Tiffany played basketball at Glendale from 1952 to 1954 and was later a long time trustee for the college.
