Baby It's been cold outside.
So cold that our 100-year-old water and sewer lines are freezing and breaking. DWP and Public Works Bureau of Sanitation has never been so busy. They are backed up. We have to be patient with the repairs but there are no more excusses for the
continued rate increases
that will come from this disaster.
Sewer Service Charges will increase $3.05 per HCF July 1, 2007 and $3.27 per HCF July 1, 2008. They are talking about raises past 2008. Get ready for more lip service to increase our rates. Water first tier and second tier rates have also increased and will continue this and next year.
Sewer service charges, city of Los Angeles
hidden tax
has been racking up over
$350 million each year
. That figure is probably within the
top five money earners for the city.
We must ask our city agency leaders and
Laura Chick
tip line, where has all the money gone? It certaintly has not gone back into fixing the infrastructure of our sewer systems for which it is intended. The Bureau of Sanitation is $1 billion dollars short. Let's see if Mayor
Antonio Villagarosa
keeps his hands off or takes the money to balance the budget or pay for something it was not intended for.
I asked when he was elected if he would touch the funds and he said he could not make any promises. Former Mayor
James Hahn
in his last year in office took $60 million and put it into the city general funds.
We the homeowners, apartment owners, HOA, commerical building owners who are the sewer service charge account holders are taking it up our backsides.
The city agencies, the Department of Water and Power and Public Works Bureau of Sanitation department, are throwing the money down the drain by paying employees high salaries and using expensive subcontractors outside the agencies to do the work they should be able to do themselves.
We need to take a closer look at this hidden tax.
I have been helping account holders for the past four years. I market a unknown program called sub water meter or irrigation meter. Call my office at California Utility Services, 1-800-400-1727 to learn how you can save up to 80 percent off your sewer service charges from you water bill. You can visit my Web site
