Help Us Move by Adopting a Shelter Animal Today!
Contributed by: Miki Shaler on 5/15/2007

LA Animal Services is moving to a new facility on May 21st and wants to make the move animal free! In the effort to end euthanasia as a method to control pet overpopulation, LA's East Valley Animal Care Center is caring for an unprecedented number of highly adoptable dogs, cats, and rabbits.

To help alleviate this crisis, LA Animal Services is joining forces with nationally recognized dog trainer Bobby Dorafshar - founder of New Leash On Life. Dorafshar will do what he does best - help ensure a loving home for animals, ignite the passion to adopt, and motivate the public to act.

For any dog adopted from the East Valley Animal Care Center at 13131 Sherman Way in Van Nuys from today until May 20th, New Leash on Life will:

  1. • Pay 50% of the adoption fee for any dog weighing 35 pounds or more ($45 value),

    • Provide a FREE six week training session (valued at $250), and

    • Provide immediate and professional advice to help ensure an adoption lasts a lifetime through a HOTLINE just for adopters during this event (priceless).

The Adoption fee ($91 for dogs under 35 pounds and $45.50 for dogs over 35 pounds) also includes spay/neuter surgery, microchip, vaccinations, and a license.

LA Animal Services will open a new Animal Care Center at 14409 Vanowen Street in Van Nuys on May 22nd.

Dorafshar and Animal Services want to empty the old East Valley Animal Care Center of all animals prior to this move by encouraging Angelenos to do the kindest thing possible - adopt a shelter animal.

"The only thing better than a new shelter", said Ed Boks, general manager of LA Animal Services, "is an empty one." Animals not adopted between today and May 20th will be transferred to the new facility on May 21st.

"It is our job as citizens of Los Angeles to come together in this time of crisis," says Dorafshar. "There are a lot of lives depending on us, and we will do our best and hope that the public will do their best."
