I am writing to tell you about my hero who is currently serving overseas in the U.S. Marine Corps - my husband,
Javier Cavazos
. It all began in December 2004 when I was working at Glendale Eye Medical Group. As a company, we sent 100 care packages to Marines in Iraq. Javier was one of those Marines and being in charge of his unit contacted our compnay by e-mail and thanked us for our love and support.
He and I remained in contact while he was in Iraq. Upon his arrival back in the states, in February 2005 we met face-to-face. It was instant for us - Love! Things moved rather quickly and before you knew it I was resigning from a job that I loved to be with the man I was in love with.
I moved down to Oceanside, Calif.,to be with Javier. Things were never better for us and soon we would be expecting an addition to our family. In May 2006, we welcomed our little girl,
Avery Nicole
. Javier would soon find out he would be leaving for his third tour to Iraq.
On April 10, 2007, he was deployed on the U.S.S. Rushmore for a humanitarian mission around the world. He will be gone until December 2007. Javier grew up in a small town in Texas raised by a single mother, "since he lost his father when he was 6 years old" and has a younger brother. He was a troubled teen who got into a lot of bad situations.
Javier enlisted into the Marine Corps in 2000 to better his life and support his family who were in trouble financially. After his first tour to Iraq, he saved up enough money to buy a home in Texas for his mother and younger brother, who would be homeless if not for him. Javier owns a home in Texas and only gets to live in it when he goes back on vacation, two times a year.
He has sacrificed so much for his family and himself and now has his own family here. He just missed his daughter's first birthday. He is truly a hero in my eyes and many who know him. He is a wonderful man who will be re-enlisting for another four years later this year. I can honestly say my husband is a hero who defends our country and our freedom!
I encourage every American to bow their heads on Memorial Day to remember those who serve our country and sacrifice the ultimate doing so.
Thank you for reading my story,
Sincerely,
Dena Cavazos
