Local Curves Offer Free Breast Self Exam Kits
Contributed by: Diane Rumbaugh on 9/30/2008

Curves women's fitness centers in Los Angeles County are giving away a breast self-exam kit to women who try the new Curves workout system during the month of October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The free Liv Aid tool greatly enhances a woman's ability to detect an abnormality, which in many cases will lead to early detection and a better chance for a cure, according to Ernie Bodai, M.D. and breast cancer surgeon.

Olivia Newton-John is the spokesperson for Liv Aid. "Being a breast cancer 'thriver,' I know that early detection is key to good breast health," says Newton-John, whose cancer was diagnosed in 1992 and who is now cancer-free.

Each year, Curves members participate in events designed to raise awareness of health issues including Relay For Life and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Curves International donates millions of dollars for cancer research.

Two hundred twenty five Curves members recently took part in Heart Walk. "Any time Curves can help women take better care of themselves, through exercise programs or health education and research, we'll be in the forefront," says Lynda D'Angelo, who owns Curves in Eagle Rock and Glendale.
