The
Optimist Dad's Day Dash
on Saturday,
June 14
will benefit the UCLA Mattel Children's Cancer Program and the Kids Cancer Connection. UCLA is only one of two hospitals in the United States engaged in an innovative cancer treatment utilizing cutting edge technology. It depends entirely on fundraising efforts like the Optimist Dad's Day Dash.
The
UCLA Mattel Children's Cancer Program
is testing a vaccine that neutralizes the brain cancer cells in children through the immune system. Proceeds from the Dad's Day Dash have been dedicated to this important research. Pharmaceutical companies will not fund this research and the program depends solely on community fundraising efforts like this.
The Dash will also support the
Kids Cancer Connection
which recognizes that childhood cancer is devastating and creates unique pressures on the whole family. They offer a variety of nationwide services and programs to children and their families to help them through the challenges of childhood cancer. This includes providing housing and support for children and their families while undergoing treatment at UCLA Mattel Children's Cancer Program clinic.
The Optimist International organization's
Childhood Cancer Campaign
works to bring awareness to the disease and provide assistance to children and their families, plus support funding of research to find a cure. In the spirit of National Cancer Awareness Month, The SFV Bruins Alumni will team up with The Optimist Clubs of the San Fernando Valley and the Westwood UCLA Hospital Optimist Club in providing the second annual Dad's Day Dash on Saturday, June 14 with a 5K, 10K, Run-Walk and a Kiddie Fun Run. The Dash begins at 7:30 AM at Warner Center Park, 5800 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Woodland Hills 91367.
The Dash
features CHIP timing, goodie bags, food, music and more.
