On 7/5/2007
Contributed by: Carol Fernau on 6/26/2007

Bob Kretz met Ardis Sandon during their senior year of college at the University of California, Berkeley.

Bob's roommate was dating Ardis' roommate. A rascally scoundrel had just broken Ardis' heart and her roommate wanted to help fix it. She talked Bob's roommate into setting up a blind date between the two of them, and, as fate would have it, they were married a year and a half later on 5 July 1937.

Bob was born in San Francisco on Jan. 29, 1914. Ardis was born in Mankato, Minn., on Aug. 10, 1914.

Bob was a geologist for 25 years and then a horticulturist, raising roses for another 30 years.

Ardis, while working at the Denver Capitol, was crowned the "Rose Lady" by official proclamation of the State of Colorado just before she retired. She brought roses to work for many years, brightening the lives of many people.

Bob and Ardis are both retired now and have moved to Verdugo City, Calif., in order to be close to their family. They havethree children, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
