TODAY'S TOPIC: Write a poem for National Poetry Month.
BASEBALL
I love baseball, so do you, so come
and get it all!
Hit the ball and hit as far as a bird,
go to first, next, second then third.
Then there you go.
Now you know Baseball!

STORMY WEATHER
It's very blue,
dark, rainy
always scary
lightning
lots of
crying.

PETS
People love their pets,
They are with you at
the sunset.
They are with you
when you sleep.
They are right there
at your feet.
If you wake up at dawn,
they are with you
when you yawn.
If you had a bad day,
they'll make you
smile either way.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR
I like your company
a lot.
But if I do
something bad,
I get caught.
All your choice for who
could be in
Dear Daily News.
I just always seem
to lose.
People write about
all sorts of
things.
But I would love
to write about
people with
wings.
But right now I
need to relax.
So, I'll just say
pay your tax.

TEACHER
My teacher
I must confess
Always wears
earrings and
a matching dress.
She's the smartest
and the best.
She has
always been
here.
Too bad she's
retiring next
year.

A SPRING DAY
Daisies sway
in the breeze
while the sun
shines.
Meanwhile
people make
wishes.

FOR YOU
Flowers grow.
Flowers bloom.
I will pick
a flower for
you.

AMERICA'S PASTIME
Baseball is a sport.
Alex Rodriguez is a famous person.
Some get hurt
Even though they are professionals.
Babe Ruth was a legend.
At the field, he concentrated on the ball.
Lots of people like baseball.
Lots of people play it.

ALSO KNOWN AS FOOTBALL
Soccer is my favorite sport.
On some days you win and others you don't.
Cheers are heard all over.
Cooperating is the way to win.
Entertaining is the soccer game.
Roaring sounds from cheers to victory screeches.

IN MY HEART
I wrote your name
on a piece of paper
and I
lost it.
I wrote your name
on the sand and
the waves washed it
away.
I wrote your name
on my hand and
I washed it
off.
I wrote your name
on my
heart
that way I will
always remember
you.

COMING UP: California workers must pay their federal and state income taxes by April 15. Tell us why government needs tax money. If you could make the laws, what things should be taxed, what things should NOT be taxed and give us your reasons. Draw a picture of yourself buying something that has a sales tax.
Parents and teachers should make sure that the student's name, address, age and school are CLEARLY PRINTED on the letters and the backs of drawings.
Pictures should be drawn using black or dark blue ink on white, unlined paper. Drawings must be no larger than a standard, 8 1/2-by-11 inch sheet of paper.
The deadline is April 8 and letters will be posted April 15. Letters received after the deadline cannot be considered.
