This is a special year for the Glendale Relay for Life event because 2008 marks the fifth anniversary for the event. The 24-hour event will be held Sept. 27-28 at Scholl Canyon Baseball Fields.
Glendale Mayor
John Drayman is the honorary chair this year and the planning committee is looking for families, businesses, youth groups, churches or any other group or individual interested in joining or forming a team to join this effort.
Participants will be entertained and educated by a variety of games and activities - including a "Moonlight Meditation" Saturday evening and a sunrise yoga class Sunday morning.
There will be an area dedicated to children. For those who are still awake, the entertainment committee has planned a family-friendly movie to be shown at midnight.
Local restaurants will be donating food and drinks to the event. At 9 p.m., all the lights are turned off for a special candle-lighting ceremony honoring cancer survivors and people who have lost their battle to cancer.
This year, the event is presented by Glendale Adventist Medical Center Cancer Services and USC Keck School of Medicine and has growing support from many other local event sponsors.
It focuses on celebrating those who have won their battle against cancer, remembering those who have lost their fight and fighting back against this disease.
