From glucose and bone-density screenings to body fat analysis, Verdugo Hills Hospital's "Family Health & Safety Fair" on June 2 attracted many community members and their families from throughout various parts of Los Angeles.
Community members received free health screenings and had an opportunity to have their test results evaluated by
David Han, M.D., MPH, and
Hwan Z. Suk, M.D. Participants also received healthcare advice, including information on skincare, fitness and exercise as well as asthma and CPR education.
Montrose resident
Karen Beam said she enjoyed the health fair and found it very helpful. "I have no insurance, so it's hard to make an appointment to see a doctor," Beam said. "I came here to the health fair and got my results and I'm very happy."
"I think the fair is a great service Verdugo Hills Hospital is doing for the community," said Montrose resident
Lauren Lifset.
Terry Roszhart, a community nurse, said she found the screenings and evaluations very useful. Roszhart, who has also been a patient at Verdugo Hills Hospital, said the health fair was definitely "worth the time."
In addition, hospital President and CEO
Leonard LaBella announced the health fair's raffle prize winner. Twelve-year Glendale resident
Won Hwa Jong won the raffle drawing and took home a 32-inch, flat-screen TV.
Jong, who works as a retail store cashier in Highland Park, said she found the bone density, glucose and cholesterol screenings the most useful.
Other health screenings offered included: cholesterol, blood pressure, height and weight, dental and vision.
