The Armenian National Treasures Foundation (ANTF) has recently launched a CD titled "Sounds of Patriotism."
The CD features 28 Armenian patriotic songs in a classical rendition, performed by Cilicia String Orchestra and conducted by world renowned conductor Maestro Mikael Avetisyan.
The patriotic songs featured on the CD are a part of Armenian history, a result of the Armenian revolutionary movement. The songs host tribute to the efforts of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation and the fighters known as "fedayees" that defended the Armenian people during the Ottoman oppression in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Many of these songs are still taught and sung by Armenians at many community gatherings, festivals and churches as a reminder of our legacy. They enrich the lives of Armenians all over the world and remind them of the struggles of their ancestors.
"After the Ottoman oppression, Armenians were forced out of their homeland and had to mitigate to different countries, thus losing the melodies and the original hymns of our patriotic songs. This CD encompasses the original songs that pay homage to our fallen heroes, and reminds us of the struggles of our ancestors, said
Bianca Manoukian, chairperson of the Armenian National Treasures Foundation.
"We hope the production of this CD will help current and future generations preserve the original patriotic hymns that we have all grown up singing," Manoukian added.
The classical patriotic tribute is conducted by Maestro
Mikeal Avetisyan, a recipient of the City of Glendale and the County of Los Angeles Artistic Achievement Diamond Award.
The CDs were donated by the ANTF to local community-based youth organizations. They can purchased directly from them by calling (818) 507-1933.
Established in 2007, the ANTF fosters pride in the Armenian heritage. ANTF works to instill the values of the Armenian people by stimulating broad-scale involvement of all generations, and encouraging the preservation of the Armenian traditions and customs.
ANTF also contributes to the restoration and conservation of sites and buildings of archeological and historical importance to the Armenian population.
