Activist against violence to speak

"Women's Role as Activists in Today's Culture of Violence: A Culture of Wife-Beating, Workplace Shootings, Waterboarding and War" is the topic of a lecture presented by activist Eisha Mason at Glendale Community College from noon-1 p.m. Thursday, March 27, in Kreider Hall as one of GCC's Women's History Month events.

Mason hosts a radio show called "The Morning Review" on KPFK FM and is co-author of "64 Ways to Practice Nonviolence." She is co-founder of Soulforce Trainings and former executive director of Common Peace.

She is currently th associate regional director of the American Friends Service Committee for the Pacific Southwest, supervising work on economic justice, immigration, criminal justice, demilitarization and ending the war.

Mason also teaches classes on the practice of nonviolence.

The presentation is the tenth in the annual Women's History Month Lecture Series made possible by an endowment from the late Dr. Robert Newcomb, a former CSUN geography professor.

The lecture series is dedicated to his late wife Karen Hale Newcomb and her friend Donna Clare Gerken, both GCC graduates. The lecture is also presented as part of the monthly Humanities/Social Science Lecture Series.
