"On Cloud Nine, the JPL Fellowships" will be presented at Glendale Community
College on Tuesday, March 25, at noon in Room 243 of the Santa Barbara Building.
The speakers are GCC faculty
Varoujan Akopian
,
Laura Faye Tenenbaum
and
Joan Watanabe
and Moorpark Community College instructor
Jim Sommers
. They were all participants in a faculty intern program at JPL and will discuss the different projects they worked on.
Akopian's presentation will be "Radio Observations of Cassini." The Radio Science Group studies the atmosphere, rings and the structure of the gravitational field around Saturn, using the modern techniques available on the Cassini spacecraft.
Tenenbaum will present "New Climate Change Course Curriculum," focusing on what she learned about changes in sea surface topography measured by satellite and how the information will be used in a new climate change course.
Watanabe's talk, "Preparing Mars Rover Photos for a Digital Planetarium," concerns her work for JPL's Museum Alliance. The Mars Rover planetarium project was created a year ago by two of Watanabe's photo students.
Sommers' topic will be "Target Earth," about the only person ever to be hit by something from space, and why and how the New Earth Environment is studied.
The presentation is part of the GCC Science Lecture Series.
Admission is free and open to the public.
