From narcotics and explosive training to suspect apprehension and obedience, officers
Robert Wynkoop
and
Aaron Hamilton
from the Glendale Police Department Canine Unit talked about their daily trainings with their K-9 companions (
Marlin
and
Quwai
, respectively) during a recent Verdugo Hills Hospital Foundation's Women's Council luncheon at the Hospital.
Demonstrations were presented by the K-9 officers and their handlers in order to show their dogs' unique skills, capabilities and response to commands.
"It was a great experience to be able to see first-hand how the Glendale K-9 unit operates," said
Sue Wilder
, Women's Council Program Chair. "The dogs and their handlers were so professional and seemed so bonded to one another. It is amazing how much training the officers and their K-9 partners go through in order to offer us the protection that they do. The demonstration of Marlin finding the marijuana was very impressive."
"I really enjoyed watching the K-9 dogs and their officer handlers," said
Chris Mason
, chair of the Women's Council. "The love these officers have for their dogs is so obvious and it is wonderful to see how each team works together. I hope that this special program within the Glendale Police Department will always receive the support it deserves."
Members of the Women's Council are a diverse group of approximately 65 women. Members come from the surrounding foothill communities and have backgrounds ranging from medicine, business, education and community leadership.
If you are interested in becoming a member of this prestigious group of women, please call the Women's Council office at 818-952-2228 or stop by the foundation office located on the fourth floor of the hospital.
The Glendale Police K-9 unit is funded solely through donations from community organizations, businesses and private citizens.
