Glendale resident among ICON honorees

Glendale resident and Union Bank of California Executive Bruce Corbin was honored by the UCLA Center on Aging during its annual ICON Awards gala held recently in Beverly Hills.

This year's ICON Award recipients also included Emmy Award-winning talk show host and author Larry King and singer and actress Della Reese, along with Corbin, who serves as a senior vice president with the bank.

"For more than 10 years, we have had the privilege of honoring exceptional individuals whose life's achievements and ongoing contributions to society have inspired us all," says Dr. Gary Small, director of the UCLA Center on Aging. These icons exemplify the meaning of 'living better longer,' which the ICON award represents."

Corbin is the longest-tenured employee of Union Bank, having begun his impressive career in 1950. As chairman of the Los Angeles and Orange County Contributions Committee for the Union Bank of California Foundation, Corbin is responsible for managing the foundation's funding to charities located in these two counties.

He also represents the bank in Los Angeles in a wide range of civic, charity and community activities and serves on the board of numerous organizations including the California Science Center, California Hospital Foundation, California Council on Economic Education, Central City Association, Children's Bureau of Southern California, Inner City Arts, National Jewish Medical Center in Denver, Optimist Youth Homes and USC Gerontology Center.

Corbin is also the recipient of City of Hope's "Spirit of Life" award, National Jewish Medical Center "Chairman's" award, National Conference of Christian and Jews "Man of the Year" award and the Girl Scouts "Humanitarian" award.

As part of a 2004 "Blitz Build" sponsored by Union Bank and the Hollywood chapter of Habitat for Humanity, this longtime community volunteer had a street dedicated in his honor.

The new neighborhood and street named "Corbin Way" is located in the vicinity of 69th and Long Beach Blvd., where Corbin helped erect homes during a six-week partnership between the entertainment industry and Habitat.

Founded in 1991, the UCLA Center on Aging is a non-profit organization that aims to enhance and extend productive and healthy life through research and education on aging.

The renowned center brings geriatrics and gerontology to the forefront of public awareness and support. The UCLA Center on Aging is entirely supported by private and corporate donations.
