Grand View Memorial Park remains closed this month, pending resolution to the hazardous tree situation. Here's a quick update:

Glendale Assistant City Attorney Mike Grant told me today that the city manager's office will meet tomorrow, Thursday, July 26, with reps from the city's parks department and its urban forester to discuss which direction to take.

"Legally, we accomplished what we set out to do so (earlier this month) as far getting court's permission to do the work," Grant told me.

"Tomorrow we will discuss whether to go forward with a bid (from an outside contractor) or if city staff will do the work. Afterward, the city can approach the plaintiff's council with a figure, which they have been waiting for, and then they will come back with a response to reimburse the city," he further explained.

Meanwhile ... some fun news to report!

Silent film comedian, the great Harry Langdon, is just one of thousands of people whose remains remain locked away inside Grand View as this story rolls on.

While you can't see his cremation niche in the West Mausoleum, even on visitation days due to the court's preservation order which keeps all buildings locked, I'm happy to report that you can see him in action on the silver screen tomorrow night in West Hollywood.

The Silent Movie Theatre will be showing Langdon's 1923 classic film, "The Chaser," at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 26.

Harry's son, famed photographer Harry Langdon Jr., will be there to introduce the film and I've also been asked by theater management to say a few words to the audience about Harry's final resting place at Grand View.

"The Chaser" will be presented in 16mm. Here's a description from their Web site:

"A henpecked husband is court-ordered to switch places with his wife in Harry Langdon's strange, black comedy. 'The Chaser' sets Langdon's babyfaced manchild loose in a battle-of-the-sexes send-up that includes everything from crossdressing and suicide attempts to a bravura car chase. Langdon, already a successful Vaudeville and circus performer, became a popular icon in the silent films of Frank Capra and Mack Sennett. This screening of 'The Chaser' marks a rare chance to see Langdon's work as a director's career that unfortunately never took off. The feature will be accompanied by a live musician and preceded by a program of short films."

The Silent Movie Theatre is located at 611 N. Fairfax Ave., just south of Melrose Avenue. ( Map)
